a little ordinary and banal
Indonesian supernatural horror movie called “Panggonan Wingit”; (aka “Haunted Hotel”), I sat down to watch it here in 2024 because such an opportunity arose. And given my long-standing love of the horror genre and Asian films, I certainly didn’t need to be persuaded to sit down and watch this film. Writer Richim Junianti created a decent enough script. It was definitely entertaining, but at the same time, writer Rihim Junianti indulged in a number of stereotypical horror tropes that made certain aspects of Panggonan Wingit work.
However, I must say that the acting in the film was good
I’m not saying that this is a bad film, not at all, because I really liked the plot, and I’m sure that newcomers to the horror genre will buy this film when they watch it. However, as a longtime fan of horror films, I found the film to be good but not impressive. Considering that I watched Indonesian cinema for a relatively short time, I was only familiar with the main actress of this film – Luna Maya. Actor Egi Fedli, who plays the spiritualist Ky Danang, really succeeded in his role, giving a very memorable and convincing performance.
I liked the special effects, props, scenery and costumes in the film
“Panggonan Wingit” has enough blood and visual chaos in the film, but not excessively. Thus, director Guntur Suharjanto managed to take something that was used sparingly and extract something good from it. The film, which lasts 110 minutes, would probably need a more careful finishing in the editing room. If you like horror and Asian works, you should sit down and watch it.
